St. Louis de Montfort

Feast day: April 28

Born in Montfort, France, in 1673, St. Louis de Montfort received his education from Jesuits in Rennes. He pursued seminary studies in Paris and was ordained in 1700, subsequently serving as a chaplain in a Poitiers hospital. Louis established a women’s congregation known as the Daughters of Divine Wisdom there. He then commenced preaching parish missions across western France. Additionally, he founded the Missionaries of the Company of Mary. He gained recognition for promoting devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary. In his later years, Louis focused on preaching and writing; his most celebrated work was “True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.” Louis passed away in 1716 and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1947. His feast day falls on April 28, and he is recognized as the patron of preachers.
