A seasoned exorcist is reacting to a recent piece in Cosmopolitan magazine and a social media update describing a “satanic abortion ritual.”

“In past times, individuals who engaged in malevolent acts stayed in the darkness and concealed themselves,” Msgr. Stephen Rossetti, research associate professor of practice at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., informed Our Sunday Visitor. “Currently, our society has become so disordered that malevolence operates openly and is accepted, even tolerated. Someone must declare: ‘The Emperor has no clothes.’”

Msgr. Rossetti, who additionally heads the St. Michael Center For Spiritual Renewal, a charitable organization that prays alongside individuals undergoing spiritual anguish and seeking healing and liberation, has acted as an exorcist for the Archdiocese of Washington for over 15 years. The accredited psychologist has authored multiple books, including “Diary of an American Exorcist: Demons, Possession, and the Modern-Day Battle Against Ancient Evil.”

He expressed his opinions following Cosmopolitan, a magazine aimed at women, detailing a “satanic abortion ceremony” in a逐步描述中. story online and in an Instagram post released in November.

“So what does a satanic abortion ritual actually entail?” the post featuring pictures of inverted crosses inquires. “Here’s a straightforward one [the Satanic Temple] suggests.”

Satanism and termination of pregnancy

The broader narrative highlighted the Satanic Temple, which claims it does not adhere to the belief in Satan or any supernatural elements; however, it sees itself as a religious entity and offers “religious medication abortion care.” Its virtual clinic located in New Mexico proposes to send abortion pills to women in that area “who want to undertake The Satanic Temple’s Religious Abortion Ritual.”

The “ritual” prompts women to concentrate on their own needs and ends with them declaring, “By my body, my blood; by my will, it is done.” This wording differs from the Mass, where the priest recites Christ’s statements during the consecration: “For this is my Body, which will be given up for you” and “for this is the chalice of my Blood … which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

“Satanists frequently adopt Catholic ceremonies and sacraments and perform what we refer to as a ‘Satanic inversion,’” Msgr. Rossetti stated. “They will seize what is sacred and defile it, as seen in a Black Mass. Malevolence takes the truth and then alters or distorts it.”

He remarked on the link with abortion.

“I was informed earlier by an ex-Satanist that he performed rites to offer the abortion and the fetuses to Satan,” Msgr. Rossetti stated. “As Catholics, we understood that abortion was a serious sin; the link between abortion and Satanism only reinforces this notion and casts a distinct, ominous shadow over all pro-abortion advocates.”

Among other details, the Cosmopolitan article mentions a woman referred to as “Jessica,” who was brought up in the Catholic faith and intends to proceed with this type of abortion by integrating “certain ceremonial elements into her individual abortion experience.”

“I would encourage everyone who advocates for abortions or those contemplating the procedure to reconsider their position,” Msgr. Rossetti stated. “Do you genuinely wish to associate with Satanists?”

Other exorcists have more broadly remarked on abortion and its connection to the demonic. As the principal exorcist of the Archdiocese of Washington, Father Luke Clark, OP, has previously referred to abortion as an “open door for the demonic.” during one interview.

“[W]e’ve encountered instances where this was precisely how the demons managed to take hold of the person,” he stated. “The consequences of abortion are catastrophic. The death of the child, the mother’s terror, hopelessness, guilt, embarrassment, self-loathing, and the conviction that she has committed an unpardonable sin all indicate an environment of hell.”

“However, as long as we exist,” he continued, “we have the ability to repent and receive forgiveness for any wrongdoing, including abortion.”

The doctrine of the Church regarding abortion

The Catechism of the Catholic Church denounces abortion as a “violation of human life.”

“Human life must be honored and safeguarded unconditionally from the instant of conception,” asserts the Catholic Church. “From the very first moment of his existence, a human individual must be acknowledged as possessing the rights of a person — which includes the sacred right of every innocent being to life.”

The Church, simultaneously, extends compassion and pardon for individuals connected to abortion.

“The Church does not seek to limit the reach of mercy,” the catechism states, but rather “clarifies the seriousness of the offense committed, the irreversible damage inflicted on the innocent individual who is executed, along with the effects on the parents and the entire community.”
